Bavarian soldier who in August 1914, during the first weeks of World War I, recorded prophecies from a prophetically gifted Frenchman he met at the front. His two Feldpostbriefe (field post letters) to his family contain remarkably specific predictions about future wars, the fate of Germany, and the role of the papacy. The letters were examined by parapsychologist Prof. Hans Bender around 1980 with no evidence of forgery found. They were first published in 1953 by Father Frumentius of St. Ottilien monastery, the former confessor of Cardinal Ratzinger (later Pope Benedict XVI).
