Blessed Elena Aiello received vivid visions of the coming chastisement of Italy: 'The sky will be covered with dense darkness and the earth will be shaken by terrible earthquakes which will open deep abysses, and cities and provinces will be destroyed.' She further warned: 'The earth shall quake so violently as to scare all mankind. And so, the wicked shall perish according to the inexorable severity of Divine Justice.' Italy, as a 'privileged nation' blessed with the presence of the Pope, is particularly singled out — because of the multitude of sins committed there. Provinces, cities, and even parts of Rome will be swallowed by these abysses that open in the earth.

Elena Aiello specifically prophesied about Italy's chastisement: 'Italy shall be humiliated and purged in her blood. She shall suffer very much indeed on account of the multitude of sins committed in this privileged nation.' The punishment will come through both natural disasters and war. Even the Vatican will not be spared — 'even Rome will be punished according to justice for its many and serious sins.' After the purification, Italy will return to the faith more fervently than before.
