Isaiah

A virgin will conceive and bear a son, and will call him Immanuel, meaning 'God with us.' This child would be a sign from God himself to the house of David.

The land of Zebulun and Naphtali, the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations — the people walking in darkness will see a great light. A child will be born who will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots will bear fruit. The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him — the Spirit of wisdom, understanding, counsel, might, knowledge, and the fear of the Lord.

Babylon, the jewel of kingdoms, the pride and glory of the Babylonians, will be overthrown by God like Sodom and Gomorrah. She will never be inhabited or lived in through all generations. No Arab will pitch his tent there, no shepherd will rest his flocks there.

He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows acquainted with grief. He was pierced for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities. The punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. He was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth.

He was assigned a grave with the wicked, yet he was with the rich in his death, though he had done no violence nor was any deceit in his mouth.

God declares about Cyrus: 'He is my shepherd and will accomplish all that I please; he will say of Jerusalem, Let it be rebuilt, and of the temple, Let its foundations be laid.' God calls Cyrus by name approximately 150 years before his birth.

Who has ever heard of such things? Who has ever seen things like this? Can a country be born in a day or a nation be brought forth in a moment? Yet no sooner is Zion in labor than she gives birth to her children.
