St. Cosmas of Aetolia

Canonized

Greek Orthodox saint, monk, and prophet. Canonized in 1961. He traveled throughout Greece under Ottoman rule, founding over 200 schools and preaching to the people. He left behind a remarkable collection of prophecies, many of which have been strikingly fulfilled — including Greek independence, automobiles, airplanes, telephones, and the secularization of education. He was martyred by the Ottomans in 1779. He is one of the most revered saints in modern Greek Orthodoxy.
