St. Nilus the Myrrh-Gusher (Nilus Myroblytes) was an Orthodox monk on Mount Athos, Greece. He is attributed with a famous set of prophecies about the modern era, written for the "50th century" (roughly 1900-2000+ in the Orthodox calendar). The prophecies describe technological advances, moral decline, and the coming of the Antichrist with remarkable specificity. IMPORTANT NOTE: There is scholarly debate about the authenticity of these texts — some researchers believe they may have been composed in the early 20th century and attributed to St. Nilus retroactively. Regardless of authorship, they are among the most widely cited Orthodox prophetic texts.
