Bible
Zephaniah (Sofonija) was a prophet during the reign of King Josiah of Judah (640-609 BC). A descendant of King Hezekiah, he prophesied about the Day of the Lord — a day of wrath, darkness, and judgment upon Judah and surrounding nations. His prophecies contributed to Josiah's religious reforms. The Book of Zephaniah is one of the twelve Minor Prophets.
The Great Day of the Lord
630 BC — Jerusalem
Partial
The great day of the Lord is near — near and coming quickly. That day will be a day of wrath, a day of distress and anguish, a day of trouble and ruin, a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and blackness, a day of trumpet and battle cry. Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to save them on the day of the Lord's wrath. (Zephaniah 1:14-18)

Judgment Upon the Nations

Gaza will be abandoned and Ashkelon left in ruins. At midday Ashdod will be emptied and Ekron uprooted. Woe to you who live by the sea. Moab will become like Sodom, the Ammonites like Gomorrah — a place of weeds and salt pits, a wasteland forever. Cush and Assyria will also be destroyed. (Zephaniah 2:4-13)

630 BC — Jerusalem
Partial
On that day you, Jerusalem, will not be put to shame for all the wrongs you have done to me. I will remove from you your arrogant boasters. Never again will you be haughty on my holy hill. But I will leave within you the meek and humble. The remnant of Israel will do no wrong. The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you. (Zephaniah 3:11-17)
