John's disciples told him that Jesus was also baptizing and everyone was going to Him. John replied: "He must become greater; I must become less. The one who comes from above is above all. The Father loves the Son and has placed everything in his hands. Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life." (John 3:30-36). This was both prophecy and submission — John's ministry decreased as Christ's grew, exactly as foretold.
